Traveling is different than taking a vacation. Most of the time, us Kladders travel. We love trying new things, seeing new sights, and exploring new places. But this year’s annual ski trip took us back to Big Sky — this time with the whole family.
Since our last visit, my skiing has improved immensely. Over the past eight years I’ve gone from a beginner cautiously making my way down the mountain to confidently skiing black diamonds—especially the glade runs, which I’ve grown to love. And yet, despite all that practice and determination, our kids have somehow managed to catch up with me.
Thomas is now taking jumps (and landing 180s), and Natalie is a whiz at skiing backwards—something I’m not entirely convinced I need to attempt myself. Somewhere along the way, skiing quietly became the one activity we all truly love doing together.
This year also brought the chance to make incredible memories with friends—old and new—as we gathered with our YPO group from around North America. Our Big Sky hosts created an unforgettable week filled with guided ski excursions, incredible dining, and unique “only in Big Sky” experiences.
One favorite was an evening gondola ride to Kircliff overlook, a stunning glass viewing platform perched at the very top of the mountain. On another night we rode snowcats up the mountainside to a cozy yurt where we shared dinner, live music, and plenty of s’mores under the stars. And their new outdoor ski apres spot called Iglu was loved by all after a long day on the hill.
This trip solidified Big Sky as one of our absolute favorite ski destinations—especially for families. With its easy accessibility, breathtaking scenery, terrain for every age and ability, amazing dining, comfortable accommodations, and genuine hospitality… it’s hard to beat.
More than anything, though, we’re grateful for the memories made—time spent together as a family and alongside dear friends. Big Sky has a piece of our heart now… and forever.
