Castaway Fundraising with our Byron Center Young Life Group

Last night marked our last Young Life Club of the year where we said goodbye to our seniors as well as a set of our leaders, Josh and Emily who are moving on to greener Young Life pastures. But for those of us still kick'n it, we aren't done yet. A few months back Jeff and I committed to being camp counselors at Castaway Camp with our kids in June.

Castaway is a week long summer camp cranked full of awesome activities and facilities perfect for high schoolers. But the camp fee for the kids isn't cheap totaling $575 per camper, so as their counselors we decided to help them fundraise.

Over that last few months they've been hitting the pavement with cookie dough and honey baked ham orders. They all earned a pretty substantial amount towards their total given the timely sales of the ham right before the Easter holiday. But they still have a ways to go, so this past week we coordinated a few gigs doing yard work and other spring cleaning items working for donations.

Jeff and I spent our Saturday morning and early afternoon with the kids and a few other fellow leaders from Byron Center High School doing yard work throughout the Grand Rapids area. Donors had the kids do everything from raking leaves and picking up sticks to washing windows and their cars. We even had one of our brave souls clean a few bathrooms!

With a few hundred dollars each left to earn they could use your help. If you have spring yard or house work that needs attention, drop me a line and I will coordinate: nicholekladder@gmail.com. There's no set amount on what they hope to earn, your donation to Grand Rapids Southwest Young Life (GRSWYL) is welcome.
