2015 Traverse City Color Tour

Chateau Chantal Grand Traverse.JPG

Last weekend we went on a road trip to look at the leaves changing color and the entire time I thought to myself, 'holy crap we are getting old.' In our defense, there was alcohol involved in our tour. That's gotta mean something, right?

3 days, 8 friends, 1 AirBnB, and 700 miles later we covered some serious Michigan wine country and fall scenery including Grand Traverse Lighthouse in Leelanau State Park, 2 Lads Winery, Chateau Chantal Grand Traverse Winery, Bonobo Winery, Brys Winery, and Mission Lighthouse on Old Mission Point. We had dinner on Grand Traverse Bay at Apache Trout Grill Friday night, lunch (and watched the mind blowing U of M vs. MSU game) at 7 Monks in downtown Traverse City on Saturday, and had lunch at Stafford's Pier in Harbor Springs on Sunday after our tour of the Michigan famous 'Tunnel of Trees.'

And let me tell you, old or young, I don't care your age... Michigan is damn beautiful and when it comes to the changing of seasons (no matter how abrupt they may be at times) nothing tops our home state.

Last weekend one of our friends asked the group, "If you lived in another state, which would it be and why?" I've thought about it since and honestly, my answer is 'none of the other United States.' If we didn't live in Michigan then I'd prefer a move to South America or Europe. Why? Because if we're living in the U.S., I... 1. want to be near my family, but also 2. I love love love the four seasons.

On Saturday morning we woke to snow covering the ground. I geeked out over it being the first snowfall of the season - clearly I belong in Michigan. Luckily for us, the skies cleared and we enjoyed the rest of our 'brisk' fall day tasting wine. That is, until U of M took a sh*t on our evening. I'm embarrassed to say that would have been a night filled with karaoke turned into pouting and self pity. There's always next year...

Until then, enjoy the fall weather... 70 degrees and sunny? We'll take it!
