And on the fifth day they said, "Let us relax!"
After 4 action packed days of travel, we welcomed the beautiful beaches and lounge chairs found in Monterosso, a five minute walk from our apartment.
While the forecast listed rain and thunder, the sky said otherwise. We woke early to find nothing but sunshine and jumped at the opportunity to kick up our feet by the sea. We indulged by renting beach chairs and umbrellas from one of the restaurants there. With it came free wifi and easy access to food and drink - well worth the 7 euros a person. Nothing much to report about our morning other than we lounged, read, and Jeff got a really great sunburn.
Mid afternoon we sat down for lunch at the beachside restaurant where we had rented our chairs and started to see the dark clouds the forecast was talking about roll closer to shore. It wasn't long before it started down pouring.
The entire patio of the restaurant huddled into the small bar enclosure in attempt to keep dry and it was there that we hung by the bar with our liter of wine giggling through the hail falling outside.
During our time spent in the little bar, Jeff attempted to steal (not really though) the bar keepers tip jar which was actually in the shape of a cow (something Josh egged him on to do), while Emily kept trying to drink everyone else's glasses of wine instead her own. Me? I was a perfect angel.
The storm cleared and we ended our day of relaxation with some of the best pizza we've ever tasted: one with spicy pepperoni and oil, another with pesto and ricotta cheese, as well as the ever classic margarita pizza.
Then, it was off to Florence.
BONUS TRAVEL NOTE: What is on a margarita (margherita) pizza? A: olive oil, mozzerella cheese, basil, and tomatoes. It's delicious!
