I have never felt more on vacation than I did during our Spring Break trip to Cancun, Mexico this year. The weather was absolutely perfect, we enjoyed bottomless margaritas (and virgin strawberry daiquiris) and we were almost always in or by the pool. I never once cleaned, made a bed or prepared a meal. We ordered room service. We said, ‘yes’ to (almost) every single request for ice cream and we slept in and stayed up late. We made so many fun memories and it’s got us excited and ready for summertime back here in Michigan.
We traveled again this year with our friends and neighbors the Van Vels Family, opting for an all inclusive stay at the Dreams Playa Mujeres Golf & Spa Resort. Jeff and Josh enjoyed 4 rounds of golf and discovered some of the local wild life while on the course including crocodiles and Kudamadndi - aka the Mexican Raccoon. From what was shared, there was a report of a low score of 73 one of the rounds but then I also heard they should have packed more golf balls.
Emily and I took a morning to ourselves at the spa relaxing in both the steam room and sauna before our deep tissue massages. We sat and chatted while our ‘spa valet’ gave us infused water and put cucumbers on our eyes. We even dumped buckets of cold water over our heads post steam room - now I can check that off my list. VACATION!!!
We spent most of our time by the many pools throughout the property but found our favorite spot to be by the swim up bar closest to the beach. We partook in the daily water Zumba classes (so hilarious and fun), grabbed street tacos from the food cart for lunch and ventured down to the beach where the kids climbed the floating trampoline and climbing hill in the ocean. The beach was the perfect spot for Natalie to practice all her gymnastics moves.
A new memory for most all of us was our experience swimming with the dolphins. The kids were hesitant at first but quickly warmed up and absolutely loved it. The dolphins were the sweetest creatures and we each took turns holding onto their fins as they pulled us through the water. It was pretty cool.
The kids opted into a handful of kids club activities including beach flag football, rock painting, sad art and they all climbed the rock wall in the teen zone. We lost track of the time a few of the afternoons (like one does on vacation) and missed out on cookie decorating - that said, we all needed more sugar like we needed more sunshine on this trip which was exactly none at all.
In the evenings we attended and loved all the shows in the lobby theatre. There were cover bands, dancers, game shows and areal acrobatics. On the night they hosted the game show both Jeff and Josh made it onto the stage to compete - neither won. And on the last night of our stay, the resort hosted Asado Night outside in the middle of the lawn. Fire dancers performed on stage while chefs grilled and smoked meats over the open fire pits surrounding the party. After dinner we sat on the patio over looking the event with a night cap and Thomas fell asleep in my arms. It was the perfect ending to an incredible week together.
